Cuban Mojito ingredients:
The Cuban Mojito is a classic and refreshing highball cocktail that originated in Cuba. It's known for its vibrant combination of sweet, citrusy, and herbaceous flavors. The basic ingredients include:
- White Rum: The spirit base, traditionally Cuban rum like Havana Club.
- Sugar: Granulated sugar is often used, though some prefer simple syrup for easier dissolving. Traditionally, Cuban recipes use cane sugar.
- Lime Juice: Freshly squeezed is key for the best flavor.
- Mint: Fresh mint leaves, often spearmint or the Cuban variety yerba buena, are muddled to release their aromatic oils.
- Soda Water: Used to top off the drink, adding a refreshing fizz.
The drink is typically served over ice in a tall glass and garnished with a mint sprig and a lime wedge. The balance of sweetness from the sugar, tartness from the lime, and the refreshing coolness of the mint makes the Mojito a popular choice, especially in warm weather.
